• May 11, 2026: Policy meeting concluded. Cut-off marks officially set. Institutions directed to begin Post-UTME announcements immediately.
• May to June 2026: Universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education begin releasing Post-UTME registration forms and announcing screening dates. Some private universities have already started.
• After mop-up exam concludes: JAMB activates the Change of Institution and Course portal for candidates who wish to change their first-choice institution or course.
• June to September 2026: Post-UTME screenings take place across institutions. JAMB CAPS opens for institutions to upload admission lists. Candidates begin receiving admission offers on CAPS.
• 4 weeks from offer date: Candidates must accept admission offers within 4 weeks of receiving them. Offers not accepted within this window may be withdrawn or reassigned to other candidates.
• October 31, 2026: Deadline for all public universities to conclude admissions.
• November 30, 2026: Deadline for all polytechnics and monotechnics.

What Candidates Who Met the Cut-Off Mark Should Be Doing Right Now

Step 1 - Print Your JAMB 2026 Result Slip Immediately

If you have not yet printed your official JAMB 2026 result slip, this is your first and most urgent action. Result slip printing became available from May 1, 2026 at efacility.jamb.gov.ng. • Does my JAMB score fall comfortably above that mark, or am I borderline?
• What is the Post-UTME format at my target institution - online, written, or combined?
• What weight does my institution give to JAMB score versus Post-UTME score in their final selection?

Step 4 - Begin Post-UTME Preparation Today - Not When Forms Are Released

JAMB has directed institutions to begin Post-UTME announcements immediately after the policy meeting. Some private universities have already released their forms. Public universities are expected to follow in the weeks ahead. The gap between when a university releases its Post-UTME form and when the actual screening takes place can be as short as two to three weeks - and in some cases less.

Candidates who wait for the form to be released before they start studying will be preparing in the same two-to-three week window as every other candidate. Once your institution processes your application following Post-UTME screening, they upload an admission offer to CAPS. You have a maximum of four weeks to accept it once it appears. If You Scored 200 and Above

You are in a strong position for virtually every public and private university in Nigeria. Your score comfortably clears the national minimum and puts you in contention at most institutions. Your primary focus right now is Post-UTME preparation. Research your institution's specific Post-UTME format - whether it is an online CBT, a written paper, or a combined aptitude and subject test - and prepare accordingly. Most federal universities give Post-UTME scores significant weight in their final selection formula. A strong JAMB score does not guarantee admission if you underperform in the Post-UTME. Your goal is to score as high as possible in both components.

Do not be complacent. Competition for limited university places is intense, particularly in popular courses at federal universities. The candidates who end up with admission in this score range are those who prepared for Post-UTME seriously and submitted all their CAPS documentation correctly and on time.

If You Scored 150 to 199

You meet the national university minimum. You are a legitimate candidate for university admission. However, your realistic options depend significantly on which institution and course you chose and what their specific departmental cut-offs are. This is the most important score range to be strategic about.

If your chosen institution and course historically require scores well above your actual score - for example, if you scored 160 and chose Medicine at a federal university - the strategic move is to consider using the Change of Institution or Course window, which opens after the mop-up examination concludes, to adjust to a course or institution where your score is genuinely competitive. A strong performance in Post-UTME can compensate for a lower JAMB score at some institutions - but only if you are already within a realistic range of their cut-off.

The worst outcome in this score range is to do nothing, miss the Post-UTME of your current choice because you assumed your score was not competitive, and find yourself without any admission offer at the end of the cycle. Make a deliberate, informed decision about your institution and course right now - and commit to it fully.

If You Scored Exactly 150

You are at the national minimum. You meet the technical requirement for university consideration. The reality, however, is that a score of exactly 150 will be below the institutional cut-off of most competitive federal universities - and many state universities. Your most realistic path to admission at a university in 2026 is to identify institutions whose departmental cut-offs in your chosen course have historically been at or near 150, and to perform very strongly in their Post-UTME.

Some less competitive state and private universities admit candidates at or close to the national minimum. If your goal is to be in university in 2026, these are your most realistic options. If your goal is a specific highly competitive institution or course, consider whether waiting for the 2027 UTME with a stronger score might serve your long-term interests better than accepting an offer at an institution that was not your genuine first choice.

The key consideration is not just your JAMB score but the full picture - your JAMB score plus the Post-UTME performance likely required at your new target institution. The 4-Week Acceptance Rule - Do Not Miss It

Once an institution uploads your offer to CAPS, the clock starts immediately. You have four weeks to log in to CAPS and accept. After that window closes, your offer can be withdrawn or reassigned.

Ignoring an offer in the hope that a better one will follow is a high-risk strategy. Accept what you have received, then explore your options through the appropriate legitimate channels.

A Word on LASU Indigeneship Verification and Early Institutional Actions

Lagos State University has already commenced its indigeneship verification exercise for 2026 - an important early action that Lagos State candidates must attend to immediately if they are applying as Lagos State indigenes. This verification is a prerequisite for LASU admission consideration and missing it can affect your chances even with a strong score. Check LASU's official website for the specific verification process, documentation required, and deadline.

This is a reminder that every institution has its own specific pre-admission processes that may have already begun - or may begin very shortly. Candidates must monitor the official websites of their target institutions actively, not just the JAMB portal.
