Unlike UTME, Direct Entry candidates do not write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Who Is Eligible for JAMB Direct Entry 2026?

O Level Requirement

• A minimum of five SSCE O Level credit passes at not more than two sittings
• At least two of those credits must be at the Principal or Advanced level - meaning A Level or its equivalent
• The five credits must include English Language and at least one subject relevant to your intended course

Post-Secondary Qualification Requirement

You must possess at least one of the following recognised post-secondary qualifications:

• National Diploma (ND or OND) from an accredited Nigerian polytechnic - minimum Lower Credit
• National Certificate of Education (NCE) from an accredited college of education - minimum Merit
• A Level results from recognised programmes - including IJMB (Interim Joint Matriculation Board), JUPEB (Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board), Cambridge A Levels, or West African Advanced Level Examinations
• Higher National Diploma (HND) from an accredited polytechnic

The 2026 Registration Deadline - Full Timeline

• Original deadline: April 25, 2026
• First extension: May 8, 2026 - announced alongside the approval of five additional accredited registration centres in Ilorin, Ota, Ago-Iwoye, Oyo, and Lagos
• Second and final extension: May 22, 2026 - announced on Friday May 8, 2026 as the absolute final deadline

JAMB has stated clearly that the May 22 deadline is final and that no further extensions are expected. If you have not completed your registration by the close of business on May 22, 2026, you will not be able to participate in the 2026 Direct Entry admission exercise. There is no grace period and no alternative route once the portal closes.

How to Register for JAMB Direct Entry 2026 - Step by Step

Step 1 - Purchase the DE Application Form

The JAMB Direct Entry application form costs ₦3,500. Purchase it through any of the following official channels:

• Any JAMB office nationwide
• Approved Professional Registration Centres (PRCs)
• Approved Professional Testing Centres (PTCs)
• The online JAMB eFacility portal at efacility.jamb.gov.ng

Do not purchase from any unofficial source. The form is the same price at every official channel. Any agent charging significantly more than ₦3,500 for the form alone is adding an unofficial margin.

Step 2 - Gather Your Documents

Before visiting a registration centre or completing your online application, ensure all of the following are available, valid, and consistent with each other:

• Valid means of identification - National Identity Number (NIN) card or slip, International Passport, or Driver Licence

JAMB added five new accredited registration centres specifically for the 2026 DE exercise to reduce congestion at existing centres:

• Oyo, Oyo State
• Lagos, Lagos State (commenced April 30, 2026)

What Happens After You Register

Completing your Direct Entry registration is the beginning of the process - not the end. Here is what to expect after registration closes on May 22:

1. Institution Screening

Universities that offer Direct Entry admission will screen your credentials against their specific requirements for your chosen course. This screening is conducted by the institution, not by JAMB. Each university has its own minimum grades, subject requirements, and screening criteria for DE candidates. Some universities conduct a DE screening exercise similar to Post-UTME - check your target institution's official website for their specific DE process.

2. Admission Processing Through JAMB CAPS

All DE admissions, like UTME admissions, must go through the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) at caps.jamb.gov.ng. An institution cannot legitimately offer you DE admission outside CAPS. Once your institution processes your application and offers admission, it will appear on your CAPS dashboard. You must accept your admission offer within the four-week window confirmed at the May 11 policy meeting - failure to accept within this period may result in your offer being withdrawn or reassigned.

3. Upload Your O Level Results to CAPS

Even as a Direct Entry candidate, your O Level results must be uploaded and verified on JAMB CAPS before admission can be fully processed. NCE candidates applying for DE admission must still register with JAMB, have their credentials verified, and receive their admission through CAPS. Candidates who arrive at centres on May 21 or 22 frequently find long queues, system slowdowns, and centres reaching daily capacity before they can be served. Complete your registration today.
• Do not use unofficial agents for DE registration. Every aspect of the process - form purchase, data entry, document upload, and biometric capture - must go through official JAMB channels. Agents who offer to handle the registration on your behalf frequently make errors with your data that cause problems at the admission stage.
• Verify your institution accepts DE in your course before registering. Not all universities offer DE places in all programmes. Registering for a course at an institution that does not accept DE candidates in that programme wastes your registration fee and your opportunity for the year.
